Tradition and Renewal at Domaine Château Lacour
At the heart of the Médoc region, Domaine Château Lacour at Bouqueyran embodies the very essence of French winemaking tradition. Nestled to the west of Margaux, in the charming commune of Moulis-en-Médoc, its vineyards sprawl across splendid slopes, where ancient French grape varieties flourish.
The history of this centuries-old estate dates back to the early decades of the 20th century when Mr. Louis Béchat, driven by a passion for viticulture, decided to acquire these lands already renowned for their excellence. Driven by the desire to perpetuate and enhance the reputation of this classified growth among the superior bourgeois, he made considerable efforts, increasing production to over 5 barrels in the 1920s.
Through the generations, Domaine Château Lacour has traversed the ages, perpetuating its family heritage and attachment to the Médoc terroir. From Jean Goffre, who acquired the walls of Bouqueyran upon his retirement in 1922, to his son Pierre, a cooper by trade, the family has left its mark on the vineyards. Then came the turn of Lydie Goffre and René Piat to take the reins of the estate from 1968 to 1974.
Today, a new chapter unfolds for Domaine Château Lacour, marking the union of tradition and modernity. Cécile Philippe, a freelance nurse, and her husband Bastien Boudesocque, have chosen to return to these historically rich lands, seeking to perpetuate the family legacy while infusing a breath of fresh air. Driven by the desire to redevelop the land to welcome wine lovers and wine tourism enthusiasts, Cécile and Bastien embody the continuity of a passion passed down through generations.
At Domaine Château Lacour, the past merges with the present to shape the future, in a blend of tradition and innovation, where each glass of wine tells a story – one of terroir and family united by viticultural passion.
